East Germany was kind of like a weird kid with a tree fort that wouldn’t let the other kids leave after they came over and threw down the ladder and then started insisting everybody play doctor while they couldn’t escape.
Trump is a totally different kind of weird kid.

I’m starting to think Trump’s wall is mostly just metaphorical, representing a plan for better border security.
Let’s be honest here - if we build a wall, the Mexicans, primarily the cartels since they are motivated by profits, will just figure out a way under or over it, just like the East Germans in Berlin figured out ways under and over the wall.

I had a co worker from East Germany, when the wall came down he got a college degree, moved to California, and bought an F150. All thanks to Reagan, not the collapse of the USSR communist state from their impossible economic system.

I mean it isn’t a funny joke. Lol The Berlin Wall was taken down in different circumstances and for different reasons that Trump’s proposed wall (which wouldn’t even happen if he were to be elected).

Without getting too deep into this, I’d like to point out the enormous difference between a wall to keep people in, vs. a wall to keep people out. Anyone who doesn’t acknowledge or appreciate this difference is a civic jackass.

Around 1,330 out of the 2,000 miles of
US/Mexico border aren’t covered by a fence. It’s extremely unlikely that much fence is going to be built, or even funded under one persons presidency.

I believe he’s on record describing the physical nature of the wall.
But I agree it wouldn’t be effective. They already have tunnels, and subs, and aircraft, and probably ways of smuggling through actual border crossings, which would still exist.

It’s not a joke in and of itself. I’m aware the walls are different, but to some extent, a wall is a wall is a wall. It would take some careful crafting. Or you could just take both sound bytes out of context and play them in a video where they argue back and forth about a fictional wall. I just found the opposite famous quotes funny.

If the wall is meant to keep people out, that means it also meant to keep people in. While Republican are known for strict border control, the Obama administration deported way more people than the Bush administration. Liberals generally don’t want immigrants coming in because they weaken unions. Republicans usually want immigrants coming in because they offer cheap labor for big business. The republicans that preach restrictive immigration policy are usually just racists.

Exactly. He’s not as bad as many portray him to be.
The good:
-Much higher taxes for the uber-mega-rich and lower taxes for normal folk
-Better loans for college students, with lower interest rates and no requirement to start paying until employed
-Not increasing spending on the military, but getting better deals on better equipment, also retiring old stock that requires a lot of maintenance.
-Better care for veterans, part of which will come from staying out of unnecessary military actions
-Making nations that want our protection, primarily ones that we protect to prevent them from arming themselves, pay us for said protection
-Improved border security and better immigration systems for those who want to immigrate
The bad:
-Wanting to deport illegal immigrants, rather than providing a path to citizenship
-Wanting to build a wall that will likely cost a fortune to build and properly maintain, which won’t really stop illegal immigration
-Denying that climate change exists, and not wanting to do anything about it
-He doesn’t seem like he would work well with foreign leaders and may say something that increases hostility between us, China, and Russia
He isn’t perfect, but out of all the candidates, he’s probably the best we’ve got at this point. Cruz is creepy and has terrible people skills. Hillary is Hillary. And Bernie wants to provide everything for free to everyone, which just won’t work in America.
